Blue Jackets Nikolai Zherdev

The Blue Jackets say Nikolai Zherdev is in better condition and has a better mental approach than he's ever had. To take his makeover to another level, he's going to try a new position.
The 23-year-old Russian, a favourite whipping boy of former general manager Doug MacLean, will get a shot at centring a line between Rick Nash and David Vyborny when the Blue Jackets begin pre-season practice on Friday.
Well this will be interesting to see if he can take the pounding checks of the first line defensemen.

NHL records

One of his most refreshing pieces is about NHL records that will never be broken.

*FASTEST 50 GOALS: Gretzky had 50 goals in 39 games in 1981-82 and he demolished the record of 50 in 50 games, set by Maurice (The Rocket) Richard in 1944-45 and Mike Bossy in 1980-81. Gretzky had 50 goals before anyone else in the NHL that season had 30.
*FASTEST THREE GOALS IN A SINGLE GAME: Given that a NHL shift lasts less than a minute these days, Bill Mosienko’s record of three goals in 21 seconds, set in March 23, 1952, looks unassailable. Goaltending has also made huge strides in the half-century since Mosienko set the benchmark.
*MOST STANLEY CUP TITLES: Henri (The Pocket Rocket) Richard is the only player in NHL history to have more Stanley Cup rings (11) than fingers. Two of his Montreal Canadiens teammates, Jean Beliveau and Yvan Cournoyer, have won the Cup 10 times.
*MOST CAREER PENALTY MINUTES: Dave (Tiger) Williams was sent to prison for 3,966 minutes. That is the equivalent of 66.1 NHL games.
*MOST CONSECUTIVE GAMES PLAYED: Doug Jarvis played 964 consecutive games for Montreal, Washington and Hartford over 12 seasons. Jarvis retired in 1987 without ever having been a scratch. Meanwhile, Colorado’s Karlis Skrastins played his 487th consecutive game last season, which is the longest run without an interruption by a defenseman.”
